When Mahogany Clifton had a work accident and injured her shoulder, she never thought that she would be at an attorney’s office talking about a lawsuit against the surgical center her doctor chose to do a routine shoulder surgery to fix a shoulder tear. Mahogany Clifton, however, was one of the persons at a Press Conference who was potentially exposed to the HIV and the Hepatitis virus at the HealthPlus Surgery Center in Saddlebrook NJ. To be clear, Mahogany Clifton has not yet undergone blood testing for HIV or Hepatitis, but her anxiety over the potential for either infection showed in her face at the Press Conference.
Department of Health Inspection & Immediate Closure
The Department of Health
of New Jersey shut down the Health Plus Surgical Center located at 190 Midland
Avenue, Saddle Brook on September 7, 2018,
after an inspection on that day found unacceptable sterilization practices,
poor drug storage methods, and an
outdated infection control plan among other violations. One particular egregious sterilization
violation was the improper use of drug vials for more than one patient which
could spread a virus if the vial is contaminated and then used for another
patient. Another was the improper use of sterilization oven by overcrowding and
not allowing the instruments to cool (part of the sterilization procedure) which
would result in surgical instruments not being sterilized.
On June 26, 2017, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) notified the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about a Salmonella Kiambu cluster detected by PulseNet. All 47 cases have the same pattern by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) analysis was conducted on ten patient samples in the outbreak cluster, and all were highly related. The latter indicates that the patients were likely sickened by the same type of food.
MDH informed the FDA, CDC and state partners that several ill people shopped at the same Baltimore retail location and purchased papayas. Records and samples of green and yellow papaya were collected. On July 17, 2017, Maryland reported that three of ten samples had preliminarily tested positive for Salmonella. All positive samples were Caribeña brand yellow Maradol papayas from Mexico; none of the green papayas were positive. However, as noted above, Maradol papayas are green before they ripen and turn yellow, so consumers should not eat Caribeña brand papayas regardless of the color. (more…)
The Osteo Relief Institute located on Route 34 in Wall Township voluntarily closed March 7 after patients contracted various bacterial infections from injections to their knees, Monmouth County Health Officer David A. Henry said on Sunday. The investigation found several breaches of injection control, including employees not washing their hands thoroughly and letting full needles sit “well before” they were used on patients. If you know of anyone needing representation for an injury sustained by an injection from The Osteo Relief Institute, please call (973) 481-4364 for a Free Consultation.
